THE DANCE OF THE UNIVERSE
As you have surely noticed from the social pages I manage (Instasgram, Facebook and Twitter), I’ve been devoting myself to a new set of works in recent months, that I’ve called “The Dance of the Universe”.
I don’t know how many canvases will be at the end, the preliminary sketches made are six for now, but I still have some other subject in mind, even though I haven’t defined everything and I don’t want to put limits.
It’s a pleasure that you are many to follow me, which is why I am sharing step-by-step all the main stages of workmanship.
But let’s come to the question I often read in the comments: “Why dance, and why of the Universe?”
I’ll not tell you everything, what is important for me is to know that everything is born from the desire to represent a symbolic image of the movement and the forces that move the Universe, and the influence that this has on us.
I thought for a few days what to represent, but I had nothing in mind; the only thing I thought was to give up the idea at least for the moment, maybe it was not the right one or perhaps the idea was too great for me, so I started painting something else.
A couple of days later I started to dream of a series of dancing figures and definitely not understand why, and I didn’t associated the dream of what I wanted to do, until as we went in the car with my wife and some friends at a country fair, looking out of the Tuscan landscape, I had such an illumination and started the same evening to sketch out on the paper the idea that I had.
I devoted about a dozen days to sketching, also because the idea I had in mind and what I could carry on the sheet did not always seem to fit the best.
I represented the figures to give a sense of movement and above all I wanted to give this idea of giants because it is as I see the forces of nature: powerful but at the same time delicate and elegant; destructive but at the same time edifying forces that move while we do not see them, which follow a rhythm that we don’t feel or perceive fully.
For now I have made three oil canvases, I have chosen this technique because I want to have a material result of color, I use a little extra time, but the result suits me a lot.
During the first painting I created a video that I’m going to post on my Youtube page today (http://www.youtube.com/rafrart) so I can show those who are interested in the whole process.
I would like to be able to convey, in some ways, the same emotions I have tried to imagine everything…
Now I’m starting the fourth painting in the series, will be a bit more complex and I hope to do my best; I invite you to follow me, but above all to comment about anything you can think of, this helps me to grow and see if I ‘m able or not in what I’m doing.

LA DANZA DELL’UNIVERSO
Come avrete sicuramente notato dalle pagine social che gestisco (Instasgram, Facebook e Twitter), in questi ultimi mesi mi sono dedicato ad una nuova serie di lavori che ho chiamato “La danza dell’Universo”.
Non so ancora quante tele saranno alla fine, gli schizzi preparatori realizzati finora sono sei, ma ho in mente ancora qualche altro soggetto, anche se non ho definito il tutto e non voglio pormi dei limiti.
E’ un piacere che siate in molti a seguirmi, motivo per cui sto condividendo passo-passo tutte le fasi principali di lavorazione.
Ma veniamo al dunque, e cioè alla domanda che spesso noto nei commenti: “perchè la danza, e perché dell’Universo?”
Non sto a raccontarvi tutto, quello che è importante secondo me é sapere che nasce tutto dalla voglia di rappresentare con un’immagine simbolica i movimenti e le forze che muovono il cosmo, e l’influenza che ha tutto questo su di noi.
Ho pensato per diversi giorni a cosa rappresentare, ma non avevo nulla in mente; l’unica cosa che pensavo era quella di abbandonare l’idea almeno per il momento, magari non era quello giusto o forse l’idea era troppo grande per me, e dunque ho iniziato a dipingere altro.
Un paio di giorni dopo ho iniziato a sognare una serie di figure danzanti e non capivo assolutamente il perché, ne’ associavo il sogno a ciò che volevo fare, fino a quando mentre andavamo in auto con mia moglie ed alcuni amici ad una sagra di paese, guardando fuori il paesaggio toscano, ho avuto come un’illuminazione ed ho iniziato la sera stessa ad abbozzare su carta l’idea che mi era venuta.
Ho dedicato circa una decina di giorni agli schizzi, anche perché l’idea che avevo in mente e quello che riuscivo a trasportare sul foglio non sempre mi sembrava che corrispondessero al meglio.
Ho rappresentato le figure in modo da dare un senso di movimento e soprattutto ho voluto dare questa idea di giganti, perché è come io vedo le forze della natura: potenti, ma allo stesso tempo delicate ed eleganti; forze distruttive, ma al contempo edificanti che si muovono mentre noi non le vediamo, che seguono un ritmo che noi non sentiamo o non percepiamo pienamente.
Ad oggi ho realizzato tre tele ad olio, ho scelto questa tecnica perché voglio avere un risultato materico del colore, impiego un po’ di tempo in più, ma il risultato mi soddisfa molto.
Durante la lavorazione del primo dipinto ho realizzato un video che in questi giorni metterò online sulla mia pagina di Youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/rafrart ) cosi da mostrare a chi è interessato l’intero procedimento.
Vorrei riuscire a trasmettere, in qualche modo, le stesse emozioni che ho provato io nell’immaginare il tutto…
Adesso sto iniziando il quarto dipinto della serie, sarà un po’ più complesso e spero di dare il meglio; vi invito a seguirmi, ma soprattutto a commentare qualsiasi cosa vi venga in mente, questo mi aiuta a crescere e a capire se riesco o no in ciò che sto facendo.
